Emanuel Congreation represents the spiritual aspect of Judaism in Rogers Park. It serves everyone who seeks a modern Jewish spiritual foundation for his/her life. It was founded in 1880 by a group of 14 Jewish friends and relatives. Today, more than 400 families are the members of this congregation.
Different from the other congregations, Emanuel's profile relatively reflects
the active, intergenerational, intercultural, socially-concerned urban community
in Rogers Park.
It has quite diverse members including interfaith couples, fourth-generation Emanuelites, couples with different Jewish backgrounds, and those who have just identified with the Jewish people. "This depth of heritage affords us lively conversations, new perspectives, and excitement in discovering the many things we share in common: creating our Jewish community, exploring Jewish customs, helping to improve the world, celebrating holidays and life cycle events, expanding our Jewish knowledge, engaging in worship services and Torah study to nourish our lives," they say about their congregation.
