Agudas Achim Synagogue

5029 N Kenmore
Chicago, IL 60640

The history of our Agidas Achim Synagogue is very much the history of the Chicago Jews as it has been serving them for almost 120 years now. Hebrew School, Bar and Bat Mitvahs, Confirmation, and Weddings of countless individuals are important parts of the Synagogue's the twelve decades of existence. Volunteers spend many hours of their lives working tirelessly for the welfare of the Congregation, they say in their web site. Socials, educational programs, cultural events as well as religious services are a significant part of Agudas Achim North Shore Congregation's history.

However, Agudas Achim Synagogue differs from other religious temples at some point in the sense that, Rabbi Philip Lefkowitz doesn't believe that Rogers Park lives in a perfect peaceful cohesion.

As a person who lives in uptown as a rabbi and a once resident of Rogers Park, he thinks that the sense of peace in Rogers Park is artificial. He said, "there is certainly no conflict between the different religious groups." But he believes that Rogers Park is in need of the developments of channels through which various groups can communicate.

"The area has seen a number of efforts to create these channels all of whom were unavailable," he said.

However, Rabbi Lefkowitz is not pessimistic. "It is essential that these channels be developed. Unfortunately that the peace reigns there, in spite of world conflicts, contributes to the apathy that is all pervasive in working on this important effort," he said.
