Egalitarian Minyan of Rogers Park
2754 W. Rosemont Ave.Chicago, IL 60659

The Egalitarian Minyan is a self-run organization, founded in 1979, and has
no hired rabbinic, educational or clerical staff. Men and women participate
equally in the services without having any hierarchical structure.
Throughout the year, their self-taught groups meet and discuss specific topics,
texts or skills. In addition to that, any member who wishes to acquire particular
synagogue skills can be paired up with members who can teach that skill. The
Minyan's annual Shabbaton combines learning with traditional Shabbat
songs and meals.
The Egalatarin Minyan sponsors a Tzedakah fund to which members can
contribute anonymous donations. Money for the fund is also raised through the
sale of tribute and religious postcards and special fund raising events. The
raised funds are distributed to various charitable organizations in Israel and
the United States. The Tzedakah Fund is managed by a committee which
meets periodically to select beneficiary organizations. They welcome any member.
They do not have a rabbi to give sermons, although a number of their members
are rabbis in other congregations in the community. It is Minyan members who
lead all of the services of the synagogue. Each week a different member coordinates
the service.
